School-Age Social, Emotional & Mental Health Support

Resources for families and parents to encourage healthy social and emotional development of their children and youth. The role of family in a child's life is important and here are some ways that CSI supports that strong connection:

  • Student Attitudes & Support: Examine current service learning and after school activities and recommend opportunities to support children in having a positive perspective toward themselves, school, family, and community.
  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS): Put PBIS in place at all Fond du Lac School District schools. Define how expectations (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe) look in different settings. Teach, model, and re-teach behavior expectations and acknowledge progress, instead of focusing on mistakes.
  • Parent Engagement: Using the positive family connections that have been established by the Boys & Girls Club, determine topics for education/training on social and emotional health and strategies to address possible behavioral concerns. Take a collaborative, community-wide approach to parent and family engagement.
  • Diversity: Ensure that the social, emotional, and behavioral supports within the school and community are addressing all the needs of students.
  • Suicide Risk Assessments & Identification: Focus on parental and community provider ability to identify at risk students and continue to offer suicide identification training opportunities to target populations.
  • Referrals to Mental Health Services: Identify mental health resources in the community and support families in connecting their children to school-based and community-based mental health services once a concern has been identified.
  • Identification of Mental Health Concerns & Education on Treatment Options: Offer regular training to parents, school district staff, and community providers on topics related to mental health concerns, resources available in the community, collaboration between community providers, and other issues affecting mental well being.
